Business Opportunity Part 12 - Step by Step SEO - SEO Specifics - Page Rank!

I am going through the whole process of basic SEO (search engine optimization) in getting a web site to the top of search engine result pages which includes just what SEO really is and what it is about.

This is the twelfth article in this series.

Let's discuss Page Rank. What it is and what it does for you as far as SEO goes.

I will say that Page Rank is very controversial when it comes to search engine optimization. Depending on who you are talking to or what you are reading, Page Rank is either very important or has little significance when attempting to reach high search engine ranking positions. I have personally looked at many sources of information on the subject trying to find the truth. It finally came down to looking at the information Google has on the subject.

Note: When discussing Page Rank, it is important to note that Page Rank is specific to just what it implies...a page! You can have a number of pages on a web site and each one of those pages can achieve Page Rank.

The first thing to note is that Page Rank is exclusive to Google. None of the other search engines use it. It was created by Google and it is exclusively for their use. Because they command 50% to 75% of all search engine advertising, it is important to achieve high Page Rank to get high ranking positions in Google.

It can get fairly technical trying to explain how Page Rank works so I will chop it down quite a bit.

Basically, Page Rank is a whole number that Google assigns to a web site. The number is based on the amount of popularity or relevancy that site has. Numbers range from PR of 0 to a PR of 10. The higher the number is (ex. PR4 verses a PR1), the more popular the web site. The Page Rank number is based on many many complex algorithms no matter what you hear. What holds true though is that a good part of the equation is based on the total amount of web pages or "votes" you are obtaining links from. Recently we talked about back links.

I stated at one time that links are not always built the same or have the same significance. The significance or "weight" that Google places on each link is determined by the importance of the web site linking to you. Depending on how high the Page Rank is from where your back link is coming from, the more importance Google places on it.

Will say that again.

The more relevant the web site linking to "your" web site depends on the relevancy (on topic with what you are doing) and the Page Rank value that site has.

Let's say you have a hundred inbound (back links) coming to your site but they are all from web sites that have little to no Page Rank. You have 3 or 4 back links coming from sites that have at least a page rank of 4 or 5 in value. These 3 or 4 links would carry much more value or "weight" from Google. These 3 or 4 links will do a lot more to raise your site up in the search engine rankings.

Another way to look at it. You would think that from what you have just read that having a high Page Ranked site would give you higher search engine ranking positions. There is a catch though.

Not always true. For example, say that there is a web site which is positioned in front of you in the search engine result listings. You though have a much higher number of reciprocal links and back links. Your Page Rank is "higher" than the web site has that is in front of you.

They have a higher ranking position than your site but you have a higher Page Rank. It means they are doing more in SEO than you are in specific areas. It could be something like putting out more content with more consistency than you. Maybe they are getting alot of traffic and the visitors are staying on their site quite awhile. Google looks at things like that. Maybe their domain name has "aged" and been around a lot longer than yours.

There are hundreds of algorithms that determine ranking positions and hundreds that determine Page Rank.

You would think that Page Rank and ranking positions would be synonymous with each other but they are not.

If all this is true...Why care about Page Ranks?

In a nutshell, your ranking position is determined in many ways by what you are doing on a continual basis. Page Rank is more a long term value which you need to strive for.

I am currently working with a diverse team of like minded individuals in a co-op type atmosphere to build our business opportunity. This growing team currently consists of people from Ireland, Australia, England, Canada, and the United States. This team of network marketers are combining our efforts to obtain high positions in search engines like Google for higher level type keyword phrases. Where as many people usually fail when trying to build a home based business to supplement their incomes, we work together to ensure everyone has success. Anyone who becomes affiliated with us becomes successful as that is how "we" as a group become successful!

The goal here of course is for many people doing a little instead of several people doing alot to ensure that success. All traffic and customers are derived from SEO. We do not call anyone unless they request it. We have a number of web sites but I can only submit two here. To learn more go to...

Creating a Professional Image for a Home Based Business

How to Create a Professional Image For Your Home Based Business
By Darrell Lischka

Believe it or not, there are still many people who think that a home based business is less competent and unprofessional just because they are operated from homes. However, you cannot really afford to ignore even such people because they might be your prospective customers or clients someday. You'll need to do something to make them understand that you are running a professional and competent business.

Here are few things that you can do. These things maybe a little sneaky but it can positively impact your legitimate home based business.

Create professional name for your business:

Having a professional name of your business is very important. Register a name that suits your business. To a potential client, nothing sounds more professional and honest than a corporate or business name on your business cards and letter head. You may have to spend a few bucks in registering the name of your business opportunity but in the long run, it will be an investment which will be well worth it.

Business address:

You may feel awkward in giving away your residential address as business address to potential clients. It will look unprofessional. Well, it is lot better than not giving up your physical address to your clients or customers at all.

How do you overcome this issue? Well, the answer is a serviced office. It won't cost you a lot of money. It will give your business a more professional look.

However, even renting a post office box can do this job, but what would you do if you have to personally meet the clients. Serviced office has more advantages when compared with post office box. You can meet your clients in an office environment because the last thing which you want is to have is the clients visiting your home office.

Email address:

The image of your email address is another important thing which counts in portraying professionalism. Having a personal email ID or a free email ID can drive away the potential clients. The simple solution to overcome this issue is to own a domain name.

Even if you don't want to create a website, you can use it to have a professional email address. However, creating your own website will have many more advantages in taking your home business to a newer level.

Office stationary and other materials:

It is quite evident that your stationery, letterheads and business cards will add to your professional image. As recommended earlier, once you register a name to your home based business, it becomes compulsory for you to get your office stationery in line with your business name.

This is very important because most of the good clients will be willing to do business with you only if you have a professional outlook about their business. They are normally reluctant to give work to people who operate as individuals due to quality concerns.

By the way...do you want to learn exactly how to eliminate the high failure rate in a home business?

Home Based Business - How Much Time Do You Invest in Your MLM Business?

How Much Time Do You Put Into Your MLM?
By Scott Cameron

If you have a couple of hours to spare each week you can build a successful networking business. And if you believe that I have some ocean-front property to sell you in Arizona. One thing you have to realize is that it takes time, regardless of the type of business you have, to build a successful enterprise. There is no simple way around this fact!

The thing about time is that we all have the same amount of it in each day. How we use that time is what our success or failure depends upon. Building a successful home based business, or any business for that matter, takes time. But we have to use the time we have wisely. Failure to do this usually means that your chances of success are very remote. What exactly is required with regards to time?

To be successful at building a multi level marketing business you have to change how you use your time. In effect, you have to begin to manage your time more effectively. Especially if you are working a regular job while trying to build a business. This is one of the most difficult aspects of building any type of business. Most people find themselves too tired after a day at their job. They just want to sit back and relax and unwind. And there is nothing wrong with that, but you have to realize if you want to be successful you have to work at it. You have to put in the time.

It is very difficult to start working at your home based business when you know you only have a few hours each night. Even more so if you have a family that needs some of your time as well. But, if you are serious about building a successful home based business some sacrifices will have to be made. I am not suggesting you neglect your family, but rather you may have to work a bit later each night or get up a bit earlier each day. Either way you have to make the time to work your business.

When I first got involved in network marketing I didn't know much about the industry and really didn't take the time to learn. I was told, and believed, that multi level marketing is a simply business and it only takes a couple of hours a week. And all I had to do was tell all my friends and family and I would soon be building a large network. Things sure don't work that way. After a number of different companies and wasting a fair amount of money on purchasing leads, I finally realized that if I wanted to be successful I would have to learn how this industry works. And that takes time as well. But it is so important if you want to be successful.

We get advice all the time, some we listen to and some we ignore. Some solicited and some unsolicited. Well, here is some unsolicited advice for you. If you want to be successful in any business you have to put in the time. Once you grasp how the MLM industry works it will be like a light coming on in your head. But, remember you have to take the time to work and build your business. If you can't find the time then you have to make the time. Otherwise you are only wasting your time.

Top 7 Reasons to Work in a Home Based Business From Home

Home Based Business Opportunity Ideas - Top 7 Reasons to Work at Home
By Paulette Sherb

Home based business opportunity ideas evolve from skills and expertise that you already possess. Every job has an attached set of skills that can be learned either through experience or education. Those same skills can be adapted to suit other jobs including home based business opportunity.

The myth of job security persists in our society in spite of the growing number of people whose jobs are in jeopardy through no fault of their own. When you are working as an employee, your skills are viewed in terms of how they fit with your experience in a job market. When faced with unemployment more people are looking at their skill sets and adapting them to fit with work from home business opportunities.

Top 7 Reasons To Work At Home:

1. An unstable corporate environment and the threat of job loss

2. A desire to make more money than a job provides

3. Want to spend more time with family

4. The autonomy and variety of interesting work associated with being the boss

5. Tired of the rat race and ready to make a change

6. Unhappy in their current job

7. Have a good idea and want to develop it for themselves

Starting a home based business has become so much easier with the advent of the Internet. You can literally go online anytime of the day or night and be able to find an opportunity that is right for you. Due diligence is important and starting a business is not a spur of the moment decision. Once you have decided to work from home and researched the opportunity, you can virtually be up and running within minutes. You can choose to work part time or full time. There is no need to give up your day job, if you have a choice, until your business is earning enough income to meet your needs.

Most people need a reason to consider leave their day job to work at home. When times get tough though, usually because of the economy or in many instances because of bad or deteriorating work conditions, the thought of being your own boss becomes more attractive. Be aware that even though the Internet can springboard your product or service to a level of success that you may never have thought possible, it will still take time. You should be prepared to make a 3-5 year commitment to work at building your home based business opportunity.

Home Business Opportunity - 3 Important Aspects

3 Important Pillars For a Home Business Opportunity - Communication, Integration and Dedication
By Darrell Lischka

A leader can be defined as a person who has clear cut visions and the makings of pursuing them no matter what. However, having just the vision is not sufficient to succeed as a leader. He has to share his vision with others and drive them to act upon it. The same applies to a home business opportunity, where a person has to have a clear vision and share his thoughts with others so that they work according to his visions.

Leadership Quality - Communication

The skill of a person to get others to gladly follow him is called leadership. A leader never fails to communicate his vision. One has to develop a methodical way of communication with others so that they just tend to follow him. The communication needs to be clear and passionate, because clearly the passion is contagious.

To succeed in home business opportunity, you'll need to work as a leader and develop the required leadership qualities. As a good leader, a person needs to maintain discipline and work towards his vision obsessively. The person will also need to direct his and his teams actions toward the organizational goal. The mark of a leader is ACTION. Leaders never get paralyzed by failures because they are very focused towards their goals and they motivate others to do exactly the same.

Integration of Actions and Values

Integrating the inner values and outward actions is an important feature of a leader. An honest person with integrity thinks similarly both from inside as well as from outside. People trust such a person because he will never deviate from his inner values even during difficult situations.

Therefore, you will need to display integrity even with your home based business in order to increase the credibility of your business.

Few features of integrity are open and transparent dealing, timely responses and well checked emotions. A person should always avoid insensitive outbursts and bad temper. Followers always feel free to approach a leader who is open to new learning from all ends.

Pure Dedication Towards Achievement

Spending a lot of energy and time available to achieve the mission at hand is called dedication. Leading by example is the best possible means to inspire dedication from the followers. The leader will need to empower his team to face the challenges while moving towards their organizational goals.

To succeed in any home business opportunity, you'll need to process all the above mentioned leadership qualities. Be fair with others. Deal with others in an honest and consistent manner is the only fair way to go. Before passing out any judgment about others, you'll need to confirm all the essential facts and analyze the issue without being biased. Always avoid jumping to conclusions based on incomplete facts.

Make it a great day

Part 8 - SEO for Your Home Based Business

Part 8 - Step by Step SEO - Creating Your Web Site!
By Jim Eberle

I am going through the whole process of basic SEO (search engine optimization) in getting a web site to the top of search engine result pages which includes just what SEO really is and what it is about.

This is the eighth article in this series.

Okay. We are at that point in time where we have chosen our keywords, keyword phrases, and domain name...now we need to design a web site. There are two schools of thought here:

1.) Optimization for search engine optimization

2.) Designing the web site for our visitors.

Remember that SEO is all about getting traffic to your site by getting top positions in search engine rankings. Search engines have algorithms in place that statistically determine if visitors to your site remain there, for how long, where they went to once they arrived...all kinds of things. You and I have done this over time and, quite a bit. You go to a web site that is ugly and hard to get around. Maybe we can't find the information we were seeking. What do we do? We leave!

If you have a web site and your visitors leave as soon as they get there, that is not a good thing for SEO!

So, optimization "and" design of your web site go hand in hand.

With that in mind, the hardest part of building an internet business (in my mind) is creating your web site. You have to build it first before you can optimize and customize it!

If you know little to nothing about html code, you are faced with an extremely large learning curve because that is what you need to build a web site. If you search the internet, you will find free html tools and WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) programs that will help you with your html coding. I grabbed some of them and found I still needed to know quite a bit to make things work.

Your best bet if you want to get around all of that is using WordPress. There are thousands of pre-made templates that you can use to create a web site in no time. There are also hundreds of what are called "plugins" that you can upload to your site and turn on for just about whatever enhancements you need. There are even plugins that can be used to assist you in your SEO.

If you do scrap html code and use WordPress, there is one thing you need to know.

Not all templates are built the same. You could experience compatibility issues with your WordPress theme template and the various widgets and plugins available. I have not brought up widgets yet. These are plugins that are usually used for sidebars and columns.

If you go the WordPress route, here are a couple things you can do when you are deciding on themes and plugins.

1.) If you are looking at a specific theme, search the internet for reviews and see if there are any issues. You can also usually go to the web site of whoever created the theme and check out users comments. Typically there will be a thread you can browse through.

2.) Install one plugin or widget at a time and verify that there are no problems. This will save you time and headaches if you go this route.

The next topic in this series will be web site optimization for SEO.

I am currently working with a diverse team of like minded individuals in a co-op type atmosphere to build our business opportunity. The Big Lie in Starting a Home Based Business - Web 2.0

Starting a Home Based Business - Web 2.0 - The Big Lie
By Darrell Lischka

Is Web 2.0 the real deal or just a big lie? There are thousands of differing opinions on the most effective ways to make money in starting a home based business. Millions of newbies are jumping on board with the latest and greatest phenomena known as Web 2.0 believing they can catch the next wave and make tons of money. Before you venture any further into the matrix known as Web 2.0, you need to understand some important distinctions if you really want to maximize your Web 2.0 experience and make money.

I have literally read thousands of articles over the past year. Some good and many are just simply garbage advice. Just because some so called guru tells you that the key to make money in starting a home based business is by jumping on Web 2.0 train, doesn't make it so. In fact, you could be wasting your valuable time and money. Stop listening to anyone telling you it was easy to make money with Web 2.0.

Here are several key points you should consider prior to getting started.

Decide on how you are going to build your online home based business. Do you want to get traffic from social networks (aka Web 2.0) or by organic search results for specific keywords by SEO techniques? There is a big difference in how you approach each one.

Let's start by looking at the approach to building up your presence with Web 2.0 via social networking. If you are the type that wants to brand your name in the social networks as a coach and trainer, then developing your web presence via Web 2.0 platforms makes a lot of sense. Of course you need to have real life experience in that area as someone who is a subject matter expert by personal experience, developed skill sets and an ability to actually coach someone that helps them in building their home based business. Look out for those that have never actually built a successful business. Just Google their name and you will find out very quickly if they are the real deal or not.

Here is a specific example to further clarify and support what I mean. When it comes to branding your name, take a look at someone like Todd Falcone. He has been in the network marketing and direct sales field for 15 plus years and brings real practical experience in building successful businesses. He is a true professional that shares his expertise with the nuts and bolts in your face approach.

You might be thinking, ok, so here is a guy that is successful. Right, but understand the approach he has taken to get where he is today. He has actually been social networking and branding his name in reality for 15 plus years. First he built a successful business by trail and error. That progressed to helping other's by offering trainings to his friends, business partners and doing company trainings. Todd further branded his name by giving back to the general network marketing and direct sales industry by having weekly conference calls on all aspects of starting a home based business and how to specifically achieve results. He went onto to offering professional coaching services to the general public. During the past few years as his name recognition has gained traction, he further branded his name by connecting with people online via Twitter, Facebook and the Blogging community.

So its the approach I want you to understand and how many years it actually took for him to reach the highest levels in the industry. He didn't do it over night and nor will you. It was a multi-facet approach. If you are serious about going the route of the Web 2.0 phenomena via social networking, then ensure you understand its a combination of doing everything to build brand name recognition to make money.

One other key point about social networking advice that successful people will share is they always gave back. If you help enough people get what they want, then in time you too can have success in starting a home based business. It takes a tremendous amount of hard work and dedication usually over a period of years. Web 2.0 can be a great way to make money if you understand the processes involved and the fact there are no short cuts.
